CoEd Middle School Cross Country
Our schedule includes a combination of practices at the middle school and Pennypacker Park home course. Expect that athletes will have the opportunity to race approximately once a week (Tuesdays) on the course. Athletes will also practice 1-2 times a week at the Pennypacker Park home course (usually schedule later in the week) and 1-2 times per week at the middle school. We also anticipate 2-3 championship meets for a limited roster of qualifying team members (details TBA closer to these meets).
First Meeting: Due to the half day of 9/9, we will have a google meeting with the athletes (3:00pm 9/9) A google meet code will be provided within the team’s google classroom. Students are added to the google classroom once they are on the approved team roster. The first in-person meeting/practice will be on 9/10 (3:00pm 9/10).
Middle School Practices: 3:00-3:45 OR 3:00-4:00 (see schedule) By 3:00, students should report to the HMS flagpole on Chestnut Street to check in with the coaches. Students will be dismissed from the middle school flagpole at 3:45 or 4:00: girls team and boys team specific practices will dismiss at 3:45, whole team practices will dismiss at 4:00.
Pennypacker Park Home Course Practices: 3:30 report to Pennypacker Park picnic tables near the starting line along Park Blvd (near the baseball field/parking lot across from where School Lane intersects with Park Blvd). Students will be dismissed from the park at 4:30.
Pennypacker Park Meets: Try to arrive to Pennypacker Park location (map linked above) 45 minutes before race time when possible. The first four meets (9/21, 9/28, 10/5, 10/12) will be at 4:45 after the high school varsity races. The last two meets (10/19 & 10/26) will go off at 4:00 since there are no high school races on those days.

Program philosophy The middle school cross country program exposes the team members to distance training and racing at the 1.5 mile distance. Students of all ability levels and experience are welcome to become part of the program. They will be challenged to steadily progress in their training and improve in their performances.
We do not expect athletes to train prior to the season, but since many team members have asked how to best prepare, we have an optional summer training plan available here for guidance: Optional Summer Training Log
Season Information Handout (information also listed below)
Practices: We will have a combination of practices at the middle school and the high school's pennypacker park. Practices are 3:00-3:45 or 3:00-4:00 when @ HMS or 3:30-4:30 when @ Pennypacker Park September's schedule will be linked here in August. October's schedule will be linked here in September. We will announce any changes to the schedule on this site, google classroom, morning announcements, and the remind text message.
Home Meets- Team members meet at Pennypacker Park picnic table area (near the baseball field/small parking lot in the park) 45 minutes before race time. Arrive at 4:00 for 4:45 race. Arrive no later than 3:30 for 4:00 race. The middle school course is 1.5 miles within the park. It is at the officials discretion, based on number of athletes running, whether the girls and boys race together in one race or in two separate races. This is unknown until race time. (A note about parking: Please park in the Bancroft/Hopkins Pond lots. The small lot at the course fills up, and it will be blocked off for parking shortly before 4:00, since the middle school race course runs along the lot entrance.)

Uniforms - Uniform cotton t-shirts will be provided this year for team members who do not already own one. They are anticipated to match last year’s uniform tops (black shirt with white design). If you are unable to wear your shirt to a meet, please wear any Haddonfield gear or our school red/black colors, if possible.
Running/Clothing: Wear supportive running shoes to prevent injuries. Bring extra sweats to keep warm in the later part of the season. Bring a labeled or identifiable water bottle to all practices and meets.
Practice/ Meet Cancellations: In the event of rain or inclement weather, cancelations will be announced to the students before the end of the school day. This will occur over the HMS school announcements. JOINING THE TEAM:
You must complete and turn in necessary paperwork: Link to Sports Forms Updated forms are required each year. Please check with the school nurse, Mrs. Michele Barranger, if you have any questions about your paperwork. Since the season begins September 7th, it is very important that team members turn in paperwork to the HMS nurse's office during August since there is a turn around time for approval through the school doctor.
You must Register via Genesis: See link for directions.
How will I know when I have been approved for the team? As students are added to the roster, they will be added by the coaches to a “Fall 2021 Cross Country Team” google classroom. (In the past, students were able to view the lists hung around the school, but with this year’s safety precautions, students can check google classroom to see when they have an invitation to join the team classroom.)
Can I join the team at any time? Yes! We usually have a roster of well over 100 team members and this is common. Newcomers are always welcome to join the team anytime during the season, but please understand that after the start of the season we need to allow for processing time for the team nurse and team doctor to clear the student to practice.

**Please note that Impact Concussion Testing is NOT required for the middle school team**
