Biography:

Coach Brian Spicer is in his third season on the Haddonfield Memorial High School baseball staff.  He is a native of Haddonfield and grew up playing Haddonfield Little League baseball.  He represented the Little League on many district teams.  As a high schooler at HMHS, he was a three year varsity starting pitcher from 2000-2002, and a team captain in 2002.  Coach Spicer amassed a 15-6 overall record in a Bulldawg uniform.  In his senior season, he was nominated to the Carpenter Cup and achieved Colonial Conference honorable mention.

Coach Spicer continued his education and baseball career at Gettysburg College from 2003-2006, where he was a four year varsity starting pitcher.  Brian was named ECAC conference pitcher of the week multiple times for his work on the mound for the Bullets.  In April of that season, he was named as a TPX Louisville Slugger Slugger National Player of the Week for his complete game, 17 strikeout shutout vs. 12th ranked Johns Hopkins.  Others named to that team included future Big Leaguers Pedro Alvarez (Vanderbilt) and Tim Lincecum (Washington).  Coach Spicer finished the 2006 season as All-Centennial Conference honorable mention.  He still holds Gettysburg records for most strikeouts in a game (17), most strikeouts looking in a game (9) and most strikeouts looking in a career (75).    Coach Spicer graduated from Gettysburg College in 2006 with a degree in Business Management.

Following college, Coach Spicer had the opportunity to continue playing baseball in Europe as part of a traveling team that competed in Apeldoorn, Holland.  In 12 innings of work, he amassed 17 strikeouts, 2 wins and 2 shutouts.

Coach Spicer began his coaching career as an assistant in Mount Laurel for their 2008 and 2009 American Legion teams.  He helped guide the 2008 team to the Northeast Regional Championship.  Brian advanced to head coach in 2010 and stayed with the program through the 2012 season.  His 2011 team placed third in the New Jersey state tournament.

Coach Spicer has conducted private and semi-private pitching lessons at various local baseball facilities over the last several years.  Since 2016, he has worked as pitching coach for several youth programs as well.  While coaching, Brian has continued to play for local men's teams such as the RoughRiders, Cherry Hill Chiefs and Haddonfield Kings.

Brian holds a certification as an Arm Care Specialist through ArmCare.com.  The program focuses on biomechanics and tracking strength, fatigue, recovery and strength/velocity ratios.  Coach Spicer says "I'm excited to be able to get real data on our pitchers' regarding their arm health through using the latest technology and information available.  Our goal is to keep them healthy and available."

Coach Spicer is the grandson of Russ Spicer, Haddonfield baseball head coach from 1948-1978.  His father Chris was also the head coach of the program from 1979-1983.  The Haddonfield Baseball field carries their family name.

Coach Spicer resides in Haddonfield with his wife, Jen and their son, Kai.
