Scott Ward.

Assistant & Pitching Coach

Biography:

Coach Scott Ward is in his first year with the Haddonfield Baseball program.  He is a 1997 graduate of HMHS, where he was a standout, multi-sport athlete and member of the National Honor Society.  On the baseball field, Ward was a two year Varsity player under Coach Dick Eastwick.  He captained the 1997 team that won the Colonial Conference.  As a starting pitcher and third baseman, Ward had a superb senior season during which he was 10-1 on the mound and hit .406 as the team’s third hitter.  His performance garnered him All-Colonial Conference honors and he was runner-up Colonial Conference Player-of-the-Year.   Scott was named First Team All South Jersey and Group 2 All State.  Colonial Conference coaches also voted him to the prestigious Carpenter Cup, and he contributed 2 wins on the mound for his Carpenter Cup champion Olympic-Colonial team.  Following the season, he also participated in the North/South All Star Game.  Despite being named to the squad as a pitcher, Ward homered in his only at bat while also working on the mound.

As a soccer player for the Dawgs, Ward was a two year Varsity member and captain for coach Joe Falana.  He helped lead a program that won back to back Colonial Conference titles his junior and senior seasons of 1996 and 1997.  These titles were the 9th and 10th consecutive for the Haddonfield boys soccer program. The ‘96 team was a game away from competing for the state title after winning South Jersey Group 2.  That team finished with a 21-2 record and ranked #5 in South Jersey.  Ward was named all Colonial Conference and All South Jersey his senior season.

Ward attended Villanova University, where he played baseball under coach George Bennett from 1998-2002.  He earned is B.A. in Economics in 2002.

Scott is a long-time Haddonfield Little League coach and board member.  His sister, Kate is a three-time state champion basketball player at HMHS and his wife, Christine accomplished the same feat twice for the Lady Bulldawgs.  Scott and Christine reside in Haddonfield and have two children; Cooper (13) and Ryan Rose (10).  They enjoy watching their kids play various sports.

In Coach Ward’s words: “I am excited to once again wear the Dawgs uniform and give back to the athletic program that means so much to me.  I have so many great memories from my time at Haddonfield and look forward to making more while helping our student athletes continue to learn and love the game of baseball.

Mike Saler.

Assistant - Freshman

Biography:

Coach Mike Saler is a first year member of the HMHS Baseball Staff.  Born and raised in Lindenwold, NJ, he is a 2017 graduate of Lindenwold High School.  After graduating, he attended Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia and earned his degree in Accounting in 2021.

Coach Saler played baseball for Lindenwold Township from tee-ball until he was 18 years old.  He earned 4 Varsity letters for the Lions at Lindenwold High School and was a 3-time Varsity captain.  After pitching a 13 strikeout no-hitter for JV in the second game of his freshman season, he was called up to Varsity and did not look back.  He became an integral part of the team and pitching staff from that point forward.

After graduating high school, Mike decided to focus on work and school and chose not to play at the collegiate level.  He did, however, continue to play in various men’s leagues during the summers to stay active.  Throughout his many years of baseball, he played for many great coaches who taught him about the game.  He still considers many of them mentors and recognizes the role they played in fostering his love for the game.

During the summer, Coach Saler enjoys spending his time at the beach with his family and friends.  He also enjoys attending as many Phillies games as he can throughout the season.  Mike is currently a Vice President and Financial Advisor for a local firm - Haddonfield Financial Planning.
